All of the students get to visit all of the centers within a two week rotation. My reading table is also a station. I give DRAs (a test that shows what reading level they are on) and individual reading and skills tests for each nine weeks at my table.

Independent Reading

During our reading block, I teach a lesson on a strategy that the child will practice using during their Independent Reading Time. Today the students were looking for Who? (characters) and Where? (settings) in their books. They also practice these strategies in the Literacy Stations. More pictures on that later. :-)



The characters in Tristan's book were pets.

Larkin's book's setting was in the rainforest.

Investigating our Math Manipulatives

During the first week of Math Investigations the children have time to manipulate and explore all of the manipulatives that we will be using through out the year. This week we explored color tiles, teddy bear counters, geo-blocks, connecting cubes and beads, and pattern blocks. The students are encouraged to make patterns, images, or structures.
